Tripadvisor’s Content Policy

We love hearing about your travel experiences and value your contributions to our site! We also want to make sure that Tripadvisor is a safe and trustworthy source for our global community. To help us with this goal, and to ensure your content is published as quickly as possible, please ensure your content is:

Family Friendly

To maintain a safe, family-friendly environment, we don’t allow profanity or vulgarities on our site. We will remove content that contains sexually explicit comments, prejudiced language, threats or personal insults. Any content that describes or depicts first-hand participation in or advocates for illegal activities will be removed. Content containing extremely graphic descriptions of death, injuries or violent criminal acts will not be posted. We only publish content submitted by travellers age 13 or older.

Give us your best, most accurate travel advice and tips – just make sure your content is yours! There should be no extensive quoted material from other sources. Any content plagiarised from other websites, reviewers, property owners, emails or printed materials will be removed.

Non-Commercial

Content offered in exchange for personal gain, such as gifts, services or money, will be removed. We reserve the right to reject any URL for any reason.

Relevant

Please ensure content is relevant and helpful to travellers. Tripadvisor does not allow content that promotes intolerance for individuals or groups of people based on their race, gender, religion, sexual preference or nationality. Content encouraging a boycott or smear campaign of a property will be removed.

Respectful of Privacy

We respect both your privacy and the privacy of the businesses we list. We want to know about your experience but please keep personal or exclusive information to yourself. Do not include content containing personal financial information, including credit card numbers, loyalty rewards numbers, or other financial information can be removed. This includes both the reviewer’s information and the information of others.

(Effective September 5th, 2020) We do not allow users to post reviews containing the full names (including last or surnames) of other individuals. Exceptions to this may be:

Employees of the business you are reviewing that are commonly referred to at the business with their last/surname or have electively participated in social media platforms with their full name and place of employment;
The name of the business is inclusive of the surname of the employee named;
Executive-level employees representing large chains;
Celebrities;
Any employees of a property who respond to reviews on Tripadvisor using their last/surname; or
The full names of public professionals such as doctors, lawyers, etc.

Please do not disclose door codes or passwords of any kind.

Easy to Read

Help other travellers get the most out of your content by using the correct alphabet for your language and avoiding machine translations that make your review hard to read.

Listed by Tripadvisor

Content must relate directly to the property to which it is submitted, so please ensure you are adding your comments to the correct listing on Tripadvisor. If you post content to a specific listing on our site it must be for an accommodation, restaurant, attraction or airline that meets our listing requirements.

We value your contributions and encourage you to interact with your fellow travellers! We also want to make sure that TripAdvisor is a safe and trustworthy source for travel advice and information. To help us with this goal, we ask that you abide and the following rules for forum posts:

Attempts to impersonate other members or TripAdvisor Staff, or any reproduction of private correspondence with TripAdvisor Staff may be removed.

Non-Commercial

TripAdvisor forums are for travellers to exchange advice, not for advertising a service or business. Posting in exchange for gifts, services, money or any other benefit is prohibited. We reserve the right to reject specific content for any reason. External links that are not relevant to the topic or are purely promotional may be removed.

Spam, requests for participation in surveys or similar solicitations and coordinating the exchange of money (including property purchases, rentals, cost-sharing, resale of rooms or tickets, etc.) are not allowed. Owners and agents of owners should NOT share recommendations or experiences with direct competitors, even when relaying a genuine experience. If you suspect a post is fraudulent, please use the Help Centre to submit your report.

You may participate in discussions related to a business you are affiliated with (or a competitor), but only if you clearly disclose that affiliation.

Easy to Read

Help other travellers get the most of your post by using the language of the forum you are posting on. Any content that is posted multiple times will be removed, so please post once in the appropriate forum.
